Default 0.5" lift on front. Slight oversteer?

I thought my 'new' 98 xj was a bit low at the back so I got the tape measure out. 17" at the rear and 18" front. From reading posts on this forum that means my front is 1/2" higher than stock and the rear is spot on.

The previous owner has installed Rancho 5000 shocks on the front and possibly new coils (black and shiny). The rear has original shocks and springs. This could explain the difference. Easily fixed with add-a-leaf to rear and coil spacer up front.

My question is this. Can a small lift at the front create the slight oversteer I'm feeling or is this just the way xj's steer? By oversteer I don't mean the back is sliding out, more that the front feels like its turning in more that the steering wheel input would generate. I'm thinking of putting spacers at the lower control arm adjustment bolts to see if this helps (ie lengthen the LCAs).

BTW - I'm working on the belief that there is no camber adjustment on the front wheels.

Any thoughts?

There is no camber adjustment without offset ball joints being fitted. Follow my write up on adjusting the caster and toe in here :http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAlignment.htm
Have you owned a solid front axled 4wd before? They behave differently to a independent front end.

Default This my first foray into solid front axle 4wd so

its all new to me. I'll check the alignment this weekend when I replace the upper control arms. Thanks for the heads-up Gojeep. Nice website you have too. I can see many hours modifying as per your articles in the future.
