I agree with Benn0. Perspective is something motoring journo's (read: journo's in general) trade for generalization and shock value. That's what gets the readers in. VW got their hammering in recent times, and when they tire of fogging Jeep, it will be another makers turn.

I love everything about the GC, it's one of the best driving cars I've had, but I will be the first to criticize FCA for their inability to communicate and their apparent lack of organizational ability. I see recalls as a proactive thing, but if they're ever to recapture some credibility the organisation needs to execute rectifications, including parts supply, as effectively.

It's great to hear these comments from people who have experience with the cars and not just interested in writing sensational opinions.
I guess I just want to know if it's worth paying a lot for a 2016 or 2017 built car if I could have a low km 2015 car for $$$ less.
Someone mentioned that some vehicles were eligible for an extra 2 Year warranty. Is this an extension to the FCA warranty or some kind of insurance policy?
I had a 5 yr warranty on my WH but the last 2 years were supplied by an insurance company that knew nothing about the car.
I had a couple of small claims, but it was a process I wouldn't like to go through again.

Biggest difference between the 2015 and 2017 model will be the transmission shifter. The 2015 has the electronic return to centre and 2017 has a more traditional shifter. I would get the 2015 and save $'s and all the aftermarket accessories fit the 2015 but not so with the 2017 model yet.

Depends what the price difference is, the 2016/17s have the new shifter, electric steering, an updated transmission (8HP75 on the MY17 CRD), Acoustic windshield, and aluminum suspension components.

One of the worries with the 2015s is that some of them have been sitting in warehouses for a while not being used, so you are likely to have some deterioration on hoses and the like. But maybe just get a 2 year old used one that has had light use might be ok.

My understanding of the warranty is that all MY17 plated cars get the 5 year factory warranty, the older model years get the extra 2 years provided by eric insurance. I believe it is provided at no charge on demo/new MY15/16 models, but it is still the eric insurance version, which has fine print associated. They also offer it to existing owners for a charge, I didn't bother.

Cheers,
