Engine start/stop issue
Toothy, it would appear we have two different problems here.
My problem was the same as you are currently experiencing, diesel starts for two seconds then shuts down. This is an engine immobiliser issue. The problem exists in a connector “somewhere” and service dept knows where it is. It is a contact issue between male and female pins. Ok, no smart comments please.
As I said, the problem still existed after Jeep had worked on my connector so I was advised to use my spare FOB as the one I was using is most likely faulty.
I did this months ago and have not experienced the problem since. One new FOB from Jeep is forthcoming.
Now, the other problem is known as the “skim out issue” by Chrysler.
Below I have reproduced the Chrysler service dept. bulletin.
Case Number: S1108000224
Release Date: 12/09/2011
Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
Intermittent No Start With DTC’s B2224 & U0236 in WIN; P0513 In PCM.
Discussion:
If the customer comes in for an intermittent no start condition and there are DTC’s B224 SKREEM Internal, “U0236 Lost Communication with Column Lock Module” in the WIN module and DTC “P0513 Invalid SKIM Key” in the PCM please check the following.
1) The skim out issue can be seen when the customer quickly presses the START/STOP button twice with their foot on the brake pedal to shut off the vehicle.
The ESCL needs time to fully lock or unlock the steering column, when the button is depressed quickly the ESCL and WIN get out of sync and the engine will not start the next time the START/STOP button is pressed.
To start the engine the ignition switch must be in the full off position prior to performing a new start attempt. NOTE: Do not apply your foot to the brake pedal when turning the ignition switch to the off position, this allows the ignition switch to move to the full off position.
Instruct customers to press the START/STOP button once with their foot off the brake to shut off the vehicle: this will prevent the no start condition from happening again.
I have taken the liberty of removing the rest as it’s only valid for the service dept techs and it’s too long anyway.
Toothy, show your dealer this post and enlighten them as to what is happening.
Jim
