AdrianD good work, nice extra clearance! So you put a small straight through muffler in place of the big old one,,,whats it measure please. How is the new transfer going? Looking good in the pic, only just able to see it. The cross member looks like the one Jeep should have used in the first place!!
Bodgie thanks for the shocker numbers. Do you have the OME sport shocks on your 2.7 ? I have about 2inch lift, the numbers for the Bilstien that are hi lighted are close to exactly what i have measured on my 2.7,eye to eye ,with front sway disconnected,on my "up the bush secret test track". At those numbers front and rear springs still have enough pressure on them at full extension to prevent them falling/popping out.
Steelo sounds like the dobinsons are good on the road, let us know how they handle the caravan next time you tow it please.

Thanks for the appreciation guys.
I haven't tested the new exhaust yet. It's indeed a small straight through muffler, 4 inch by 8 inch oval, 14 inch long.
I have been a passenger in a 2.7 without a muffler and it barely was different. Outside it is louder but by reports from the KJ CRD owners, a straight through muffler quiets it down.
As for heat in the floor board, I hope it will not increase, on my xj diesel ditching the muffler reduced exhaust heat temps pre-turbo by at least 100F under load.
By datalogging on the same piece of road, the transfer shows a 7.2% reduction in injection quantity. And over 350k of only national roads the evic showed 6.4l/100k while before the swap I was struggling to get 7.1-7.2 on the same roads. Mine is optimistic though, off by at least 1.5l/100km.

I've been running OME shocks for 110,000km, about 15,000km of that's been on outback dirt roads and 800km across the Simpson.
I originally had the older version with the full metal casing now I'm running the new sport variants. They work very well, probably on a par with Bilstein's in terms of damping quality and performance.
I don't think you'd be unhappy with them.

AdrianD...thats a worth while reduction in fuel usage. My great big muffler is on notice, pending your feedback after a few trips.
My crossmember is still a work in progress...i mean it works great in the big gain in ground clearance ..but it somehow transmits a lot of noise from the transmission into the body of the jeep. It was a bit flexy originally,so i stiffened it up with a piece of flat on one edge. That made a big improvement in noise.Next i put the modified factory crossmember back on..noises gone.So it looks like its the fault of the new crossmember.Maybe it still flexes too much.Any way the noise has come down from "terrible" to "a bit annoying"after adding the stiffening. When the trans gets to operating temperature there is a further reduction in noise.
Bodgie...maybe the OME will work for me too...i will get some prices. Thanks for your input Bodgie, its always a help to see what has worked for others when shopping for upgrades.Hard to find fault with a shocker that can handle outback corrugations and heat!!

To clarify, the reduction in fuel consumption is before you fitted the muffler - (i.e. open exhaust) or is it with the small straight-through fitted?

The reduction is before fitting the muffler, it's a comparison between the NP247 and NP231, running the stock muffler.
After the NP231 swap I also have some noise at at a very narrow rpm range under large load (like driving up an incline at speed) but I suspect it's because of the missing dampeners. Not bothering me enough to revert to the NP247 though.
