I am by no means an expert on the mater but when it comes to long distance touring and using your car as a daily driver as well lugging he extra weight of a high mount with duel motors must add up especially if its cable. That much weight up front if you include a bar (I think you mentioned you were not getting bar work done) will mean an upgrade to your suspension or at least some leveling out with coil spacers.

I think my winch was the 3rd or 4th mod I did to my TJ and I have only needed to use it 5 or 6 times in the last 7 years. I do a lot of solo work and I have to admit that my lockers have gotten me out of more trouble then my winch has. That said I am not the type to go winching myself up the sides of mountain on a weekend.

In my own honest opinion a smaller reliable winch will sort out 95% of your problems and a snatch block and winch extension strap will sort out another 3% with the last 2% left to the really big boys.

A few people have mentioned that the 8274 might not be easy to fit, but I'm fabbing up a custom winch plate, is there something I'm missing?

Is there some reason it would be harder to mount the high mount 8247 to the front of our GC?

From what a lot are saying in here I'll be whacking the 8247 with a synthetic rope, on the poll soon.

Synthetic rope ok on the 8274? Because I know this much, from what I am being told, synth is by far the way to go. As long as I wash and be kind to it
