PolyUrathane bushes.... remarks

I want to know what your opinions are on "polyurathane bushes"
I have been told they are good and I have been told they are no good.

I was also told they wear out quicker than the rubber one's....

so what's anyone gotta say about them...
Should I go for urathane or go for stock rubber?

poly bushes are stiffer than their rubber counter parts and transmit more vibration thru the vehicle. It usually comes down to a personal choice off-roadf stores generally try to sell you polys but then I found repco sell rubber bushes for ford dead cheap and those same bushes fit the jeep. i have poly bushing in the camaro
yes it does transfer more road vibration though the car BUT the handling is so much better than ruber bushing ........gives much more road feel [img]smile.gif[/img]

Hi,

Don't have polys on the Jeep but did have an old Torana which I fitted with poly everything.

Much tighter handling control etc.
Seemed to wear okay.
Creaked if not greased occassionally. Ploy bushes are not moulded to metal parts like rubbers are.
Much more road noise transmitted due to much stiffer bush material.
Did have one problem with too stiff bushing caused extra flex in metal parts.

My opinion is that some places are best suited to rubber. eg front control arm bushes where bend as well as rotate are required. Some places are best suited to poly such as sway bar mounts etc.

Have used both types often over the years and came to the same conclusion as DXJ. [img]smile.gif[/img] In a 4x4 you want the flex in the control arms and leaf spring bushes but you can tighten the handling a bit if you use the poly in the sway bar mounts. I found also in the shocks that rubber for the top mounts and poly for the lower was the best combo with vibes and flex.

Tell more about the rubber/urethane shockie story... i am running poly top and bottom. what is the benefit of rubber top?
