Default Fan Belt for Diesel XJ

My belt broke yesterday on the way home. I think it was due to a loose guide wheel that made the belt come off.

Anyway I've been trying to hunt one down all day ringing the Jeep parts and service centre. They can't get one. It needs to come from over east. Does anyone know a place in WA that makes or stocks belt of varying sizes? or where I can get a Jeep belt from.

Also the cost of a new Belt?

Cheers

I just buy mine from Repco but you will need the old one so you can mearsue how long it is and how many ribs. On the belt it will have a code which has in it the lenght in mm as well as the number of ribs. You can usually go 25-30 mm each way on the measurement. I buy USA Dayco belts from them.

Hi Fud,

I still have my old one in the Garage, nothing much wrong with it, showing some signs of age but just replaced at 100K routinely.

I have been told Dayco make replacements, but you need the old one to get length/width.

I can't read the length off mine as the numbers are rubbed out by the idler pulleys.

Jeep charged me over $200.00 for factory belt. Best to get aftermarket one. They are standard wide multi-ribbed belt you just need the measurements

If you like I can measure my old one for you.

If you are really stuck I could send the old one over for you to use until you get a replacement.

Now we know Jeep don't have any "handy" I might search here in Sydney and get an aftermarket spare.

Good luck.

Thanks fella's,

I've got a factory belt, cost $220 and the place I went to had two. So much for none being in the state!!!!

The loose guide on the other hand is a bit of a piss off. Don't know how is happened but for some reason the bearing has spun in the plastic housing eating it out causing lots of slop. Also the belt must have been rubbing on the plastic wheel because the outside had been worn down to.

Getting a fitter to machine a new one out of ally at the moment, hope this fixes the problem.

Thanks again

Fud,

Which pulley seized?

I want to go check mine out now.

BTW can you tell us the numbers off the factory belt so we can hunt down something aftermarket?
