Default GPS software issues 2013 Overland

I have an issue with the factory install GPS in the 2013 Overland, we travel extensively through Western NSW and QLD and consistently have the GPS send us down farm tracks or private roads when navigating between major towns. I can change to either of the options:- shortest route or fastest route, and yet we will still get ridiculous routes that add sometimes 50 km to a route of 100km driving via the main highway between 2 towns separated by only 1 road. Recently between Cowra and Bathurst on the highway it instructed us to turn down a farmers private road whilst giving a shortest route of 147km whilst the highway signs say it is 107km between these towns & the trip meter agreed. One of at least 8 events in the last 4 months.

Today we took it to Jeep for investigation and after 8 hours said all they could do was load new maps at a cost of $145 +GST even though they admit it may not fix it. They said they had loaded new maps in a small number of Jeeps but had no feedback at all from owners as to whether it corrected the faults they had.

My question is, has anyone had a similar problem? And if so did the map update fix the problem as Jeep don't seem to know if it will make any difference? Whilst I have other forms of nav software on iPads etc i would like to see a $80K vehicle have a GPS that could be trusted and for $160 i could by a garmin with lifetime map updates. Thank you for any feedback

When I initially got my MY12 the SatNav was rubbish. There was a massive outcry from plenty of owners and eventually Jeep updated the maps and the routing software and it seems to work OK. Having said that, I still find using my phone to navigate a far better proposition that the built in unit.
I reckon I've programmed a destination on mine maybe 3 times since it's been updated and not once have I followed it to the destination, I get frustrated with it and stop it before using my Galaxy Note 4 with Google Maps. Much better.

Don't count on it being much better with an update

Thank you soo much for your reply, I had been searching the forum with GPS in the search not SatNav, i have now seen all the other owners problems with the SatNav that i have persisted with for 2 years. I don't know how i missed out on the free map update program that everyone mentions around mid 2014 as we haven't moved since purchasing it new. Looks like I'll be on the phone to Jeep customer service all morning.

Try going from Dalby to Gayndah - wants to go via Toowoomba and Brisbane and Gympie instead of via Munduberra, a difference of over 700kms!

No, it wasn't fixed with update. However I've found the opposite - it avoids minor roads or somehow doesn't seem to know they are there, which is the case above.

It's pathetic and Jeep don't care.

Thanks bomber that is ironically the area we first noticed the SatNav issues as we have family in that area running a dairy. Coming south from Gympie to a Brisbane address it left us in a farming area north of Caboolture instead of the address entered in Redcliffe, reentering the same address from recent places showed 40km to destination???

We had issues with our MY12 Overland GPS but all fixed under warranty - they shouldn't be charging you to update maps if the car is still under warranty should they? It's clearly faulty!

I agree Galvo but apparently Suttons our local Jeep dealer think otherwise. Yes its still under warranty, so have referred it on to Jeep customer service after reading all the other owners faults and dealings with other dealers.
