Great stuff!
Helped me decide its NOT a job I'm prepared to tackle

Will be swapping my trans out in the next couple of weeks so 1 question.
How do the cooler lines disconnect from the trans body? Had a quick look, do you just pull the spring clip and then slide them out?

Pull back the plastic rings to reveal those metal clips
I used a seal pick to remove the clips
Inside the fittings there is an o'ring
Lines simply pop out past these o'rings

The E-clips are a tad tricky to reinsert
I spent a few minutes looking for one that flew outta my fingers
The two feet need to sit inside the same slot in the fitting
(hope that makes sense)

Default Torque Converter

Must also give the boys at ASNU Transmission Products a plug
They were the only ones in Qld who could convince me
they knew what they were talking about
As you can see they fitted a Clutch Release Kit into the torque converter
An Achilles heel of this model

Default The Week That Was

On the way to work this week and the air-con stopped working.
No problem I stoopidly thought, get it regassed at the workshop.
Driving with the windows down and sunroof open at 100km/h it was all good.
Pulled up for a coffee with about 5hours to go and I heard this grinding noise at the front of the engine.
Ah well, probably just a dry idler bearing.
Why I didn't put 2&2 together at this stage I can't be sure ... but
Later that evening I also noticed a vibration and it was getting rougher.
At this stage I was in assume mode and hadn't stuck my head under the bonnet.
So I put it down to the noise I heard earlier.
As I pulled into the compound, security asked me what the sparks were coming from under the bonnet
Quick look confirmed the air-con compressor bearing was shot.

Now you must decide if I'm the unluckiest bloke in Jeepdom or the big guy is watching over me ...
As I went to pull into the carpark + bang

Of course Jeep, nor anyone for that matter, makes uni's for CRD
Thanks to the lads at Driveline Services
I've now got a steel tailshaft with greasable uni's & slip joint and the uni's are replaceable.
The balancing is spot on too.

I also took the opportunity to replace the rear CV on the prop shaft.
I've tried the Chinese ones, a Crown automotive one and they've both knocked.
This time I went for the Ford CV-861 in all American Steel from eBay
And I must say the play in this joint was minimal.

Home for a while so I've ordered a steel pulley upgrade kit
and air-con compressor through work.

Over to you + lucky or unlucky?

This thread started with a bang, crunch and what do you know - we're back where we started!

I reckon you're both unlucky and lucky - unlucky because you seem to have experienced nearly every Jeep problem under the sun, however I don't believe you have been stuck out in the middle of nowhere because of a failure yet?

Anyway, lucky you know you're way around a car or you may have moved on from Jeepland long ago!

Thumbs up Love hate

My alternator just died (5 hours and plenty of skin lost), the $1000 front driveshaft Driveline made for me vibrates like it has "D"cells inside it, runs to hot for my liking and it stalls at every traffic light.

The wreak I got for $3K has paid for itself in parts already

Best car I have ever owned

If you don't mind me asking how much did the shaft cost you? i need one but I'm a bit reluctant because of what happened to clarky so was looking into getting one in from tom woods.
