Finally got Ironhide roadworthy sorted and swapped rego to qld. Now to find tracks to get lost on!!

IMO no. But it may be a different story with the ally rocker cover. But I would still suggest no. I doubt they would have used RTV at the factory so why start now.

I tend to apply a thin smear on both sides, to seal off any small irregularities.
I like to do gaskets once.

EDIT: always make sure the mating surfaces are clean and free of any old gasket remnants etc

The OBD1's didn't use a gasket, this is the one with the alloy rocker cover, if you have a gasket it's a pretty safe bet that you have the stamped steel rocker cover...
