Default JK 3.8 What's your OIL

Ah so Shell Helix Ultra EXTRA 5w-30 became ECT then sub divided 5 ways...
Shell have a engine warranty scheme, but suggest 5w40.
And have not answered my email as to why is it so.
So may I ask my fellow 3.8 owners what kind of oil do you run....?

I'd prefer to stick with Shell as their additive pack seems to have done well with no oil usage @47k, but as supplies of ECT are scarce I'll need to switch.

If you do a search here you'll find this has been done to death already.

Yeah I figured, a search for '3.8 oil' returned nothing. Google has it for sure.
But I wanted a Shell spin on it and local input as more DPF compatibile stuff is tainting my selection without going full zinc and filling my cats. Cheers
Any tips on better search criteria...

Yeah, "3.8" & "oil" are too short to search for as the built in search ignored words less than 4 characters.

I find Penrite 10W40 is good. In mine anything that starts with 5 gets consumed rapidly, as in, I will have to top it up before the next change. Ann my other cars, including my TJ, would be fine between changes.

You should be fine with that sort of oil in a 3.8, as it isn't really cold enough in Melbourne to warrant 5 weight oil, as long as what you use meets the specs. They specify the lower viscosity so that the engine uses marginally less fuel & helps Jeep meet the CAFE requirements in the US. (Combined Average Fleet Economy)
