WH - what size tyre & rim combo?

My MY2007 WH CRD came with 245/65R17 wheels. I see that there is now an 18" rim available as a MOPAR option. Also, SRT8's come with a 245/45R20 wheel so I guess these also fit or is there something different about SRT8's?

Want to reduce revs when cruising & thought that this may be a good & legal way. Suggestions / ideas appreciated.

Why dont you just increase tyre size, no need to replace rims ,unless thats what you want.
You could go to 255/70r17 (about 31" diameter) or even 265/65r17 (same dia but wider).
You need to do calculations to work out gearing & find what diameter tyre you want then set about finding suitable tyre.
I think you can go up to 32" on WH w/out much rubbing.

Ginga, turbomart is right you can increase the tyre size, however, you need to run that past your insurance company and in an accident past the authorities.

Have a look at my and several others thoughts on the subject, it has a progression, as I was getting advice from the Mickey Thompson dealers and their national sales office in Canberra, good luck!

If the following link can be believed - http://**************.com/yjlkkg3 - then 265/65R17 are an optional extra; therefore Jeep should have a tyre placard that makes them legal for insurance etc purposes. Would prefer the 255/70R17 at +5.1% bigger than standard but the 265/65R17 at +3.5 will help a little.
Extra width of the 265's don't cause a problem; more rocks down the vehicle's sides?

Sure says it there Ginga, only what does your tyre compliance sticker say on your glovebox?
Insurance assessors look at your compliance sticker not redbook!

If you ordered your vehicle with the factory option, well, then your compliance sticker would reflect this.

Sorry to be so blunt mate, but what you do to your vehicle is your business, many others have done the same as you're proposing.

I'm being the devils advocate to give you another slant on the matter!

If all else fails ask your insurance company "what if" even if they make a note on your file it will create the same result as if you're looking down the barrel of a claim in the future and protect you from a very hefty "own" repair bill or God forbid, a vehicle writeoff in a serious accident.

If your insurance tells you OK, let us all know and I'll happily tell Mickey Thompson and TJM they were very wrong!

Ok.

I too want to put 265/45/17's on my WH.

I went to my local tyre guy and he said no more than 15mm.

To which I replied...cr@p!


So I rang the A.C.T. govt motor vehicles tech dept and asked him and he said "15mm max."

I said cr@p!


I said "On my car I want to go up 25mm and its only a 3.5% change and even the speedo will be more accurate."

Then he said "wait a minute, .......your car is a 4x4?"


Off he went then came back after a bit and said, according to "National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (NCOP)".....


"The overall diameter of any tyre fitted to an off-road passenger vehicle or a commercial vehicle must not be more than 50mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designated by the manufacturer for that model."

I said "what does that mean for me?" So he said "its the Australian National standard and is with 265/45/17's my car would be legally compliant in the ACT."


So I asked my insurance company, they says if it is roadwothry according to the ACT govt then its fine with them.

It is not just the sizes you also have to watch out for the speed and load rating. For example the WH A/T tyre is a 107T which equates to 975kg max load and 190km max. The Mickey Thompson 245/70/R17 is an LT tyre 119R which is 1360kg load but the speed rating is 170km Well over the speed limit but not equal or greater than standard.
