Would have liked the 764's but they are only 2ply sidewall in 17" & Bob Jane don't sell them.
That's what I got. I also wanted 764's but now prefer 762's.

Hi gang,

I will soon be getting a EFS 2" lift fitted. Price all up is $1,400 which I think and hope is okay.
I also need to fit new tyres. 245/70/17 or 255/65/17 but I do want the spare to fit in the standard under tail carrier.
I'd appreciate knowing what is best for this.

Thanks greatly, Dave.

Hey Dave,

$1,400 fitted sounds OK. I have the OME/ARB 2" lift and that would be about $300-400 more. I paid $2,000 but that's including The Pilbara tax!

You can actually fit JK Wrangler Silent Armor 245/75R17's to a WH with no dramas, plus they fit in the spare wheel well (only just, with a bit of force). You can also fit 265/65R17 or 265/70R17 to a WH with XH Commander rims - the 65 series will fit in the spare wheel well, however the 70 series will probably require the towbar mod to fit (cutting off of approximately 15mm of excess steel off the back of the towbar). Google it if you are unsure - plenty of info out there.

Either of the tyre sizes you have suggested will fit no problems, both on the car and in the spare wheel well. I just thought I would mention the others as everyone has the tendency to want to go bigger later on!

If you have the CRD, you will hardly notice the taller diameter in regards to power loss - mainly take-off is affected. I have reprogrammed my Commander CRD with the Hypertech Tuner for the larger tyre size and it's heaps better. Fuel economy is slightly worse than stock. This should be fixed once I get my GDE tune.

Hope this helps.

The one problem with the GDE tune is that one tends not to drive sedately

Hi Hanna, thanks heaps for all the info. Yep my WH is a CRD. I had seen elsewhere that 245 75 17 needed 1.25 wheel spacers so the tyre would clear the top suspension knuckle. Commander rims give this space.
Sorry, can I double check that standard Grand Cherokee mags and 245 75 17's will clear the top knuckle. Apologies for the double check. Many thanks, Dave.

245/75/17 will clear the top bolt/knuckle. will rub on the inner guard on full lock (minimal) with factory rims 50.8mm offset.
