It would likely be as capable or more capable than the Discovery which has had universal acclaim. Granted that means it's not the ideal base for a rock crawler or a comp truck any more but in terms of off road ability I'd guess it'll still do what 99% of current Defender owners want, with the added bonus that might actually be quite nice to drive on road.
I actually quite like it. With the possible range of body styles they're looking at I think it could it could be quite popular, but popular as a new fun model within the LR brand, not really as a Defender replacement......I still think they failed at that part of the brief as it just doesn't feel like a Defender any more. Wonder if they could do a base model with simple live axles and couple of diff locks instead of fancy traction control, and then strip out all of the fancy internals to create a decent load space.
