For the record, I email Coastal Electronics to ask them what is the official stance on support. I explained that I bought it from them and got it completely working on my RB2 aside frm the missing AM radio. Completely ignoring the finer points of my email, I got this canned reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately at this time we do not process international orders, ship internationally, or take international credit cards/Credit cards without a USA billing address.

Furthermore, we do not test any of our devices on non North American Vehicles or North American vehicles used internationally (outside US/Canada) and have no empirical data regarding compatibility or feature use in non-US spec vehicles. We do not guarantee compatibility with Non-North American vehicles or North American vehicles used internationally (outside US/Canada).

Furthermore, the RB2 is NOT a compatible system with our device.

Again thank you for your interest and have a great day.

ahahah. Well they DID ship it Internationally and they DID accept a non_US credit card! He says "the RB2 is NOT a compatible system" moments after saying that they "have no empirical data regarding compatibility". I think he means that it is not supported and they don't know if it's compatible.

I have a degree in computer science so I was pretty confident I could hack this thing into working to some degree, anyway (how hard can be hahaha). It is a case of buyer beware though. After my mechanical upgrades are done, I am keen to get the hard drive of the RB2 out and mount it on my PC to see if I can customise the Jeep boot screen logo to a custom background hehehe. It uses a QNX operating system similar to Linux so that might be a fun project to write up later this year.

one thing i picked up from that that i would actually use is the mapping, the mygig is hopeless especially for offroad, so id be interested how to run say Hema maps for eg.?

I would just go with a Garmin device for off-roading mapping. The Mygig Navigation seems like it was a token gesture to everyone outside of the US and had very few decent updates; And, as you point out, even more useless for off road. While there are a few brands of GPS other than Garmin, it seems there are more 'free' downloadable maps for the Garmin.

I am no expert on GPS though. Another IT specialist I work with, gave me that advice.
