Default Power Steering / Rack Issues

Hi All,

Missus has just called and said the power steering has gone in the KK. Just as she was reversing in the driveway a lot of noise and now leeking fluid.

Will try and diagnose when I get home but has anyone gone through power steering or steering rack issues before?

Looks like it's done the drivers side rack seal. Does anyone know if it's serviceable easily or is a replacement a better option?

So far cheapest replacement is from ebay in the UK. Local stealership pricing is $1906 for supply only.

For anyone with the same issues in future :

Repco reconditioned swap unit $1060 (sourced from VIC with $1120 deposit for swap)
Jeep OEM part prices from $1820-$1906 (sourced from Melbourne)
Local wreckers $330 with 84,000kms on it. From a petrol model so will need to confirm it is the same as CRD.

Hi mate,

Very sorry to hear about your troubles. Which way did you go with the replacement? Wrecker, Repco or Jeep?

It looks like you're pretty handy on the tools there too!

Is that a Uneek bar you have there?

Good luck getting your KK back on the road.

Hey 8Track,

Went the used option, got it from wreckers down near the port. All fitted with new tie rod ends I had spare in the shed. Now it is tighter than a nuns....

At just under 200k on the clock my old rack and tie rod ends were very loose, seems great now.

Hopefully someone will fit me in Sat morning for an alignment. I'm not far out with my diy laser job but as it's the kid carrier it must be done right.

All up around 3hrs for removal and 4 for install. All on stands in the backyard. Not too hard just a tight squeeze.

You're not up in the Hills 8Track?
