Its 530kms via the shortest route from Mt Dare to Birdsville. (ie fuel - fuel)
Take your normal off road consumption, add 20%, plus take an extra 40 litres.
The Eyre Creek diversion was around 100kms when I crossed last time in a 4wd due to rain. be prepared for such diversions.
Its rained recently and flood waters are currently moving south, the Diamantina Creek crossing just out of Birdsville currently has a fair amount of water over it

Sounds like a good trip overland Kontek.
I'm about to take my 3.7lt from the WA overlander roadhouse to Steep point/DHI return. Towing. With all the water and fuel we will need, for the 8 day return trip, fuel is a big concern. I'm looking at 120lts in Jerry cans alone. I'll be back late May and will post you mileage details in the off road conditions if it's helpful.

Not shore on what you would use . But i do alot of work in all remote places in Australia. As a safety barriiar work on at least 800 klm in fuel . Would even be safer at 1000 klm in fuel . Work out ruffly your worst fuel economy in 4x4. Work on atleat 15ltrs per 100klm and even 20ltrs per 100klm towing in 4x4. Why the extra is in case you go site seeing . Thier and return to track and still need to travel to next fuel piont. Its not hard to do an extra coulpe hundred klm site seeing or divertions because of weather and or out of the ordinary circumstances. Of course you can use less and not need that much. But the amount of times i have come across travelers out of fuel in the middle of nowhere because they didnt expect different situations. .
