Ryco oil filter R2737P NOT suitable for after 2013 WK2 Grand Cherokee CDR diesel

Hi,

I noticed on the website of Ryco. The oil filter R2737P is not suitable for WK2 Grand Cherokee CDR diesel after 2013 anymore.

I am sure last year when I search on their website, there is no restriction like this.

I sent the email to Ryco customer service office. They suggested me to use genuine part and replace the R2737P that I have in my 15GC now.

Does anyone have some ideas about this?

I remember reading something about some 2014 on engines showing low oil pressure with filters designed for earlier engines....this includes the original Mopar filter too. I use WESFIL WCO201 in my 2015 and the o ring on the small end of the filter is located much closer to the end of the filter than the filter designed for earlier engines.

I was concerned as I recently did my 60k service and purchased that Ryco Filter from Auto1 with my oil. After reading your post I too rang Ryco and was told not to use that model filter in my 2014. They too said "At this stage we recommend you use only Genuine".

I rang my Auto1 store and spoke to the owner who I know and he looked it up on the Auto1 site and it recommends the R2737P. I said now look it up on the Ryco site and unless you hover the mouse over the filter Part# it will not tell you "up to 2013". He rang the WA Ryco rep who was unaware until he contacted head office and was told it "Didn't meet specs". for the 2014 Diesel

I've just been out and purchased a "genuine" filter @ $90.
Thankfully I'll be reimbursed for the Ryco filter and I won't loose much oil changing it.
Thankfully I've just been doing short trips but am about to head off so I'll be changing tomorrow.

Some reading i did a while ago on US Jeep forums suggested that this slight change to the filters was specifically for the Dodge Ram versions of the same engine. The Rams apparently use a different filter housing mounted on a different angle and required a change to the smaller o-ring location to ensure sufficient oil pressure. There was a suggestion that GC's are not affected by the same issue so either filter will work fine.

In order to continue manufacturing just one filter for both versions of the engine, Mopar have changed the part number to the new one for both cars. On Mopar's site they now supply the later filter number as having replaced the earlier for all models. Presumably because they've stopped making the old one altogether now.

This could be worth further investigation for absolute clarity I think...

I have been using the RYCO filter almost since new. Now at 160K. I do remember comparing a genuine filter to the RYCO and they were the same. Maybe I had the earlier version of the Mopar filter.

Yes, that's the filter I purchased and am fitting at the moment.
