I reckon this might have been a replacement screen that had been poorly fitted, although I notice the top and bottom corners on my other XJ look a bit suspect.

The seal actually fits tight around the glass with a lip, and the front section is more for show, the inner lip is in contact with a bead of urethane sealant, which is on the pinchweld paintwork, with a special urethane primer in between.

4 stage paint repair process, took nearly all day..rust under the windscreen seal pinchweld should not be left unattended...another year or so, and I could have been up for a very tricky repair..rusted pinchweld repairs often cost well over $1000

The "new" seal itself must have been NOS, as it was very stiff, and hard to fit on the screen, needed a hair dryer.

I cleaned the screen with a safety razor, and #0004 soapy wirewool, makes a big difference

Latest works and improvements;

fitted 16" Ford Explorer teardrop alloy rims, that I have had for a while, with 255/70/16 Toyo tyres

got them cheap off Gumtree, near new, they come standard on a lot of Nissans and Rangers, as soon as those guys want bigger wheels, cant throw them away.

They match my 30 X 9.5" X 15 mud tyres in circumference almost perfectly

Explorer rims give 1/2" extra clearance to the LCA, allowing bigger tyre. They are also much lighter than steel. They look good

New Adjustable LCA & UCA + polybush insert for D30 to be fitted over xmas

Fitted JCR rock sliders, purchased from a forum member, came off a '96.

I mounted the legs with self tapping setscrews, so it can be taken down
(sliders block spring eye, and fender bolts)

also purchased a bunch of sensors of the same fellow, grabbed a used rear O2 sensor, replaced the Chinese one that failed after 3months, no codes.

new 5 ton D-shackle for receiver hitch

The UCA bushes look a bit perished, and are probably original, so hoping they may eliminate the very slight vibration still at ~55mph

Its improved a lot since I first got it, once I get the toe, caster & driveline angles all as good as I can, hopefully I will no longer be able to detect it all

also running Ebay TPMS for a couple of years, very happy with them

more pimping upcoming

ended up adding relays to protect the ignition circuit, they are behind the side kick panel, the red wire is fused power thru a grommet in the firewall....it looks just the same as it did before

made them with spade connectors so it can all be taken apart if needed...but as you can see my original connector is toasted.

I did find I can only do 3 speeds...high must be spliced behind the dash somewhere, as High Speed runs with the plug disconnected, so I could not relay it out, however, speed 3 is almost as strong, so not a game ending issue. Just got to remember not to run my fan on max setting.
The area circled in green is the splice on the circuit diagram

roasting your ignition is a serious nuisance, so now that my headlights are relayed as well, hoping it will last longtime

does not apply to post '96

also finished the headlining

bitch of a job

done it before, and someone said they got theirs done by an upholster for $200...take it!

cost me $60 for fabric, and the same for glue Selleys gel, 800ml cans, needed 2 X $30each, got glue left over

I tried to take a short cut and do it with the biscuit still in, so as not to damage the biscuit..mistake, took longer

does look good..I have misplaced my rear inside light lens

That headlining looks bloody good Tony. I can imagine it is a bitch of a job.
Mine kept falling down years ago, so i took it to an auto upholsterers.
Cost me a fortune..$500 in WA to get it done including all parts and labour. He also did my overhead console in the price.
I think i have spent more on my XJ than buying a new one....
