Might be just a simple problem though? I can plug my scanner into the transmission to check stuff. It could be a solenoid or something easy?

I’ve replaced the filter in the AW4 tranny, but never dug any further yet.

Cheers,

When reverse stops it usually has broken the reverse band, but to get plus 300K out of it is well past its use by date.

I believe this is what has happened, as I have had it before on auto trans, and seen them very worn on a couple of auto trans I dismantled...not sure why they wear so much ?

It slipped a couple of times before giving up it has about 0.5% power..not enough to move much on a flat, and had excessively long time to engage reverse beyond spec in FSM ever since I got it

Anyway, everything is out of the way, so I have to make a frame to support the auto trans and take it down today, get the other one in place to install

the tranny is on the ground

here is a simple low tech way you can smoothly move heavy things a short distance, made a loop of Telstra rope thru the rear trans flange and around the rear axle, wind it up

It has taken me about 10hrs so far, but I am a day behind schedule

I went over to the fastener shop this arvo, and got a few longer bellhousing bolts, which I will cut the heads off, cut a screwdriver slot with a hacksaw, and they act as guide studs to help slide that trans back in, hopefully that makes the hardest part of the job a bit easier

Update

I fitted the spare trans, and test drove it, but the front seal is leaking badly

I now have a new front seal, so I will have to back the trans out, remove the torque convertor, and replace the seal, which is what I should have done in the first place

Hopefully I can do this in about half the time it took last time, as I intend to not separate the TX case
