Little does he think I know, I am much more intelligence with vehicles and I know for a fact that quote is crap, I could understand maybe if it was a rear tranny leak.
But seriously? he thinks he needs to take out the engine, put it upside down to change the seal...
Can someone confirm this guy is talking crap or not? Or am I just mistaken for something else.

Confirm it is your rear main leaking.
Tappet cover leaks and oil filter adapter leaks are other suspects.
Im betting the mechanic doesnt realise the rear main is a two piece seal,
... but $1400 is a bit exorbitant imho.
As for an engine lift ?? ... If theres a next time ... it will be the way Im doing it ... but I'll let it keep leaking until theres a few reasons to pull the engine.
As the others said ... Do it yourself - as its a relatively easy job.
Take care with fitting the seal and sump ... its easy to get the seal twisted up, at the rear, with the bellhousing still fitted.
Read half a dozen internet articles on the job, watch a bunch of the youtube vids ... grab an online, factory workshop manual, and you shouldnt have any issues.
