Default 5.7 Hemi Fuel Consumption

Hi
Just bought a 2006 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi seems to be using a lot of fuel 25lt per hundred, city driving.Changed the plugs hasn't made much difference it's also hard to start sometimes and also stalls at start up. Any ideas please?

2.5 Ton car and a Hemi. From memory around town they were quoted at about 22-23 in testing so 25 would not be unusual. I wouldn’t have thought.

Stalling after start would possibly be a fuel supply issue, perhaps one of the pumps is done.

Mine gets 15.3l per 100km, but when on the hey long distance I get as low as 10l per 100km.

I think the fuel filter is part of the pump, that may cause start issues.

I've got around 18-19L/100 on the few times I've driven in the city (like Sydney CBD, Eastern suburbs, etc.). 15-16L in the Suburbs with mud tyres, armour, roof tent, full loaded with gear, etc.
So 25L does seem a bit high, assuming you're not booting it everywhere.

I had high consumption and occasional stalling at start-up when the EGR valve died (prior to getting an error code.), at around ~100,000km from memory.

Engine oil viscosity can have an impact, as it needs to be within a narrow range for MDS to work correctly. It must be 20 weight as-per the filler cap. I use 0W-20. But dunno if MDS would activate much in the city anyway.

I've cleaned the throttle body which was filthy and changed the air cleaner and its dropped down to 17/18 L. Don't think the previous owner kept up the maintenance. Try a oil change as well.
