Well after going to a 32's tyre and setting the car up with long trips away in mind the calls for a Good quality roof rack came about.
I wanted something that could hold a swag, a tyre, some Fuel Jerry's and what ever else wouldn't fit inside the JEEP. The 1st thing that popped into my mind was a Roof rack. The fact that there are no rear bars or wheel carriers made in Australia for a WJ made the decision easier however now it was time to decide on which one.
The tracklander was decided on for several reason. 1st the infinant amount of tie down points, 2nd being made from steel it will take a beating and 3rd the amount of accessories avaliable for the bar. From light mounts to hi-lift jack and Double Jerry can holders there is a mount or bracket to suit any task you require. You can even set your tracklander up to carry a Tinny.
I have mounted mine to the OEM roof rails. It is the shorter lengh rack which so far has held 3 Jerry cans, 1 swag , 1 32' MTZ , 2 camping chairs and a tent... oh and don't for get that's with a shovel bolted to the side using the tracklander "Universal Holder." All this said there is still room to mount 4x lightforce or IPF med size spottie's across the front and a long the rear for reversing or camping light.
One of the most impressive features i love about the Tracklander is that there is NO Wind noise ... No howling or squalling just a quite smooth ride that every Jeep driver enjoys on 32' muddies.
The tracklander is a 2 man Job to fit unless your a cleaver dick and can have a lifting/ lowering set up of the rack in your drive way.. some folks do this so they can remove the racks by them self and it does make a great storage space when not in use... If you can get away with out having the roof rack on when its not needed id advise that you remove it as they do increase your fuel usage... On My WG diesel i lose about 50-80kms per tank sometimes and there is a slight bit of drag felt while accelerating.
All in all the tracklander gets 4 stars out of 5 from me.... You ask why only 4.. well they are a bit dear at average price of $1100 they are an expensive bit of kit however the time and effort has been put into designing the Tracklander to be as Ergonomic and user friendly as it could be.
