Speaking off, in the holiday break, i went up to 4wd1.com in castle hill sydney who quoted me about $2k for the rancho 2.5" adjustable lift kit fitted, which i thought sounded reasonable...have you drove on rancho's before?

I haven't myself, but I've heard good things about them. You could do a lot worse than fitting the Ranchos.
