Default Wk service

Just had my wk diesel 10,000k service. $575.28 the oil put in was Castrol Edge Pro LL111. $188.00. I cannot find this oil on the Castrol web site,is this a special blend just for Jeeps or am I being have a lend of. I think I can buy the equivalent from Supercheap for around $58.00 and what about the filter at $63.28. Love my Jeep hate the service cost.

LLIII that's Castrol EDGE Professional Long Life III 5W-30 , about $14 a litre rrp at repco.

How many litres of oil does the WK(2) diesel take, my WH takes about 9 litres.

Some dealers are using
Castrol EDGE Professional OE-X 5W-30

If you dig around in the threads (on this and other forums) relating to the correct oil that Chrysler specify for the WK2 CRD , you will find that the only oil available in Australia that meets Chrysler specification MS11106 is Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W30 and you can't get it at Supercheap.
Since this model was released there have been plenty of reports that many dealers use "one size fits all" oil, most don't carry that approval.
Owners questioning their dealer have been fed rubbish responses.
The engine uses exhaust gas recirculation and there are plenty of horror stories relating to VW and Pajeros that have extensive carbon buildup in the intake system, due to oil carbonising onto hot surfaces.
I supply Mobil oil to my dealer at service simply as a risk management strategy for down the track.

The quantity that goes in mine including the filter is 8.5l and the last OEM filter was charged at $59.00.

Hi John,
That's not quite correct re Mobil.
Fuchs GT1 Pro Flex 5W - 30 meets and exceeds the Chrysler spec. (Google it)

Approvals MB 229.51, BMW Longlife - 04 etc
Available from Covs / Bursons dpending on your location.
Been using it in mine now for 40k

Hi Thommo
thanks for the link…
looks like good oil - but I couldn't see any approval to Chrysler MS11106.
There are a number of oils around that meet a similar spec but I am pedantic about using an oil that states it has the Chrysler approval.
Back ages ago when I discovered Shell had quietly changed their formula for Helix Ultra Extra and it no longer carried the approvals i did some research on what the MS11106 actually related to.
The information i got back at the time was that to gain the approval the oil has to meet a residue test whereby oil is heated on a hot plate and the carbon deposit is measured.

I particularly want to avoid any carbon issues which is why I have stuck with the only oil I can find available that does state the approval.
Of course it is possible that other oils may well have the required formulation, just that they haven't submitted for approval (or paid the money!).
John

Scary the dealers are using oil with incorrect spec - doesn't give me much confidence. Would rather track down the correct oil and provide it to a licenced mechanic.

I can't tell you how many arguments I've had with other technicians where I work now. I learnt about using correct oils, ratings, viscosity etc. at my previous employer. While I'm not an expert, all of my experience is with Valvoline, I pay particular attention to what is required. I have charged a small workshop $7000 for a new Particulate Filter due to incorrect oil used. The number of guys out there that have no idea about the importance of correct oil, or just don't care is ridiculous. Like I said I've had many arguments and even forced someone to drain and refill with correct oil.

My point is don't trust your service provider to use correct oil. Dealers should know better but the smaller workshops don't have the level of experience with this sort of thing.
