Default Wet Passenger Carpet Solution

So as some of you are aware, and some of us are new owners, the early KJ's have a design flaw with the air-con drain hose. This causes the passenger side foot-well from basically front to back to fill up with water. The result ends up being a stinky vehicle, and also rotting carpet if not fixed.

In the early KJ's the air-con drain hose (located about 1 foot from the bottom on the vehicle on the engine side of the firewall, protrudes horizontally out by about 2cm. Due to the orientation, while stationary the drain pan works perfectly, but while moving, momentum stops the liquid from draining, therefore overflowing, back into the passenger side pan, then into your footwell.

I've come up with a simple solution that I am testing myself this summer. I currently have my carpet out for the next week or so, just to make sure it works 100%, but i'm quietly confident in the design as I've heard of similar things on the LOST forums.

I went down my local hardware store and picked up some irrigation hose. I got the 19mm black stuff. the I just a 90 degree bend and another bit. Basically all your building is an extension for the drain pipe so that it can fall directly down, therefore not being blocked and draining properly. It cost me all of about 5 bux and trust me, when you've pulled your carpet out 3 times now due to being to lazy to fix it, its worth the money.

Hope the image helps with the concept, and just make sure you use a pipe clip to hold it on. Have fun removing the carpet, from my experience all the seats need to come out, and lower door trims.

Sounds like a good idea, I haven't had wet carpet and do have a musty smell. Do you have to remove the carpet to install then new pipe or can that be done from outside of firewall only.

Default Wet Passenger Carpet Solution

Had mine on for a few weeks before my coolant issue rose up, worked a treat, absolutely no water on the floor. Will have to put the carpet back in one day
