Default Second Battery

About to go on a trip from Perth to Exmouth and was wanting to know what others have done for powering a fridge. I have a 40ltr Engel and am wanting to take it on the trip but don't see the need to have a second battery installed as after this trip I won't be keeping the fridge in the Jeep the whole time. I'm looking for a removable solution. Is the easiest just a second battery in a battery box and then have have a lead ran from main battery to back compartment to charge second battery while driving?
Open to suggestions and would love some photos if you have them.

I too would recommend a portable battery. It can be recharged at a motel or somewhere.

Also one for the portable option. I used to always put a second battery in the vehicle, but with the price of these portable lithiums coming down (I just bought the larger Companion one than that displayed - a 70Ah Companion portable - for $899 from Tentworld) it's not worth it. It takes up room and weight, and the portable means you can take it to your tent (along with your fridge if you like) any time, and recharge 'things'.

I also had a 40L engel, and started with that 40Ah battery. It lasted around 48 hours in September up in Lighting Ridge - which I thought was pretty good. You can recharge it as you drive - it can charge and discharge at the same time. They also have a built in MPPT, so just connect a solar panel and wires to it and you're good to go for a long time.

I done a 2 week trip up North last year. I plugged fridge into the power outlet in the back, and at night we stayed in powered camp sites so was able to run a lead to the fridge. Never had any problems with the fridge draining the battery during the day with parking up for 4 or 5 hours while out swimming, hiking or fucking around.
That was with a 90ltr fridge.
So unless you plan on doing remote a second battery would be a waste IMO.

I had this battery box from a previous camper. It’s not bad for lead acid batteries however I chucked in a 100 ah lithium and the victron dc/dc charger. I’ll probably get a cheap shunt/battery from jaycar for it soon.

It ran my waeco CFX50 in freezer mode no probs. For a week with the occasional driving.

The red Anderson plug is DC/DC Input from the car.

I'm a bit late to this but...
Dometic PLB40 mounted ontop of the subwoofer.
Works great - needs three straps to hold in place.
