The brake does have two switches, and if they are not the same everything goes haywire. Brake activation also reduces engine torque, so there can be all sorts of knock-on effects from a faulty brake switch. I am not sure if the brake switch does anything to the TCM's strategies, but it would not surprise me.

EDIT: From memory, WJ Diag can monitor the two switches and give you a hint.

If you had oil inside the plug assembly then the unit that is mounted in the Tranny has to be replaced as they get a split and no amount of cleaning will fix the problem, the tranny needs to be drained when replacing the fixed socket as it plugs/screws into a circuit board.....

Hmmm, are you saying that I cause my own problem here? I hope you are not talking about the circuitboard but the plug itself. If it is the plug, I think I found another problem which I just found when I had a look and opened the housing.
Some of the wires are exposed and the others are literally glued to each other. I guess it was a mix of too much heat and then some rubbing.

I checked for a new one since I do not see me soldering under the car anytime soon. However all I find was the housing and not the plug with the wires. On the other side it looks like I can take the entire plug off and then work on a workbench.

Get the FSM from here, it includes diesel and it will show all the connector locations, I think you can remove the entire harness from TCU to Transmission and work on it outside the car:

I took the entire harness off and was able to fix it on the workbench. Looks like 4 or 5 wires where exposed and sticked together. I added a shrink tube to seal it again. Additionally I added some isolation tape.

Initial test drive was fine but that does not really mean a lot since this was the case numerous time before.

Zooming in on one of the pictures I just saw that I still be one part of the wire exposed and I might need to add a but more of the shrinking tube but that's something I can do under the car.

I guess I will have to find it out the hard way when I am driving to town.
