No codes? If not, then the shift valves are the likely candidate. The valve body is very susceptible to minute dirt particles causing them to stick. Pay carefully attention to which gear changes are causing the engine flare, then look at the FSM to see which valves are actuating during that change. The FSM covers this in granular detail. Then clean those valves.

Thanks JeanLuke. Nope, not a single error code. Not on the engine and not on the transmission. This is what baffles me the most and it is going on for days basically since I changed the . If an error code appears I could at least clear it and then continue driving but this way it just throwing stuff at the wall, hoping that something will stick and solve the issue. There is not a particular gear, but more or less when I start the engine and try to drive. So it must be in 1st gear already unless you would start in 2nd as it is mentioned on the web page RTB just posted.

Will have a look at the FSM and see what I can do to clean those valves.

AdrianD mentioned that Low Range ignores 1st gear in post #20 of https://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum...w+range&page=5

Might be a good test to see if you can put it into low range and drive away without slippage.

That worked this afternoon when I went to town. Once in low rage and drove for a couple of meters, I could switch back to 4wd high and continue driving. But this evening, no matter if in 4wd low or 4wd high this slippage occurred.

I'd try to look at all available live data with / without loss of drive and go from there.

Valvebody cleanup is not difficult, just requires patience and a clean work bench. It's the same transmission as on a lot of Chrysler/Dodge/Mercedes cars, so you can find videos on both transmission rebuild and valvebody rebuild.

This is one of the best resources for transmission overhaul:

A random thought this morning...
The TCM has had bared wires flapping about in the loom. It is possible that one of the output transistors has been damaged, or one of the new splices is dodgy (not a criticism of workmanship but a logical place to look).
