Check all of the service manuals available online. Oz is the only country with 10,000km service interval. Everywhere else it's 10,000
miles with oil changes as per the oil life indicator (which is only ever down to around 50% by the time my "10,000km" service is due). Who says we're getting ripped off?

Better combustion, through high pressure direct injection and also the improvements in engine oils, makes extending service intervals sensible.
The old days of port injection and huge amounts of soot, are well behind us, you don't even see trucks bellowing smoke anymore.
