One more question. I want to clarify which line is the inlet and which is the outlet on the trans. I have read contradicting material regarding this on the later model xj's. Mines a 99.

Hey carves, do the factory metal pipes need to be flared or anything beforehand? Or is just the rubber transmission hose over the metal pipe (edges cleaned up of course) and a couple of hose clamps ok?

Thats what I've been working on .... based on forum info and parts listings for the factory lines.

There is thought that pushing the oil up through the cooler is beneficial tho.

Having them flared properly would make a nice job of it ....

I only have a crappy flare tool and figured the "sharp" upturned edge was more likely to damage the hose inner surface .... than any danger of the hose coming off.

Just slide it on a good 50mm - 75mm and double clamp it ..... Its all most do - and I have had no leaks that way yet. The oil pressure is not really that high to cause an issue anyway.

I also made some brackets to secure the hoses so they wouldnt flap about or slide on the gearbox lines. Just leave plenty of slack after any last bracket and before the cooler to allow for engine mount flex etc.

I've had my B&M on for a week now. Was a fairly easy install in the end. I bypassed the radiator and have yet to see temps over 70 celsisus (in sump temp sensor) this includes around town, highway and sitting in heavy peak hour traffic. The real test will be next week when I go to Fraser for the week

Serviced cooling system while i was at it and haven't seen any increase in cooling system temp either. I'm running adrad radiator and original fan setup all in good nick.

bought my cooler from rocket for $105 to my door.
