Exclamation How to program new fob to PCM with DRBIII ??????

I can't program new transponder to PCM
Lost my keys and transponder fob for my 1997 ZG Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L..... have bought new Genuine Daimler-Chrysler transponder and keys, keys fit and work all locks manually but using the correct DRBIII Scantool the local Jeep dealer can't program my PCM to accept new signal. He says that power at OBD2 connector under dash cuts off power before he can go through the programming steps.

So, no de-immobilisation or locking/unlocking......

I'm stuck in Broome, W.A. .....any help appreciated

I know they aren't 97 models but might work?

Thanks...... the 1st URL I'll tryto work....... the 2nd links to Ebay listings for a lot of different sellers of the really old styles fobs and some new style, but they're ALL second hand AND the they mostly DON'T ship to Australia

I've got a NEW new style fob....just can't get it programmed.

I will try this method for programming on Monday (car is at Jeep dealer), but the last time I had it done at another Jeep dealer they used a DRBIII - your suggested method seems TOO easy, anyone could de-immobilise the car with any fob doing this.

Check all fuses associated with central locking, etc. check interior lights (including door buttons). Make sure door locking un locking switches are also working.

Sometimes it's the smallest thing that stops programming.

Best of luck, but not a bad place to be stuck in.

Still hoping for some more info...... later on I'll reveal a real shocker on here - after car is going.

******************************* UPDATE ******************************************

It turns out that "Authorised Jeep Service" dealer isn't one at all........ FCA Jeep say he's got nothing to do with them.

Dealer gave up after one day of trying to use DRBIII on it and it's been towed to a very good auto electrician who will have a look on Monday.

OK folks........got it to program using DRBIII ......problem was an oxidised pin #16 (5V power supply) in the OBD2 socket under the dash.

***************************************** UPDATE ***********************************

Aaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! got it back to where I'm staying in town and discovered that remote works on driver's door only (to lock/unlock) NO other doors or trunk lid works - not even using driver's or passenger's door mounted central locking buttons.

It does arm/disarm the immobiliser and the seat/mirrors/ a/c and radio memory settings respond as they're supposed to FWIW, but NOT the other doors or trunk, which is pretty important.

I did phone the auto lecky and he said to bring it back tomorrow.......I'm doomed to stay in Broome!!!

Anyone have any clues as to what's going on???? I'd really appreciate input as they don't do many Jeeps here, especially ones this old.

is not the receiver in the passenger door on these models ?
are fuses all intact ?
have you checked to see if the motors are not burnt out ? stuck, ?
does this model have a setting to set "open drivers side door only" ?
did they all work before ?
might be a idea to check for broken wires to the receiver (the harness that feeds through the body to door)

To reply:

is not the receiver in the passenger door on these models ? YES

are fuses all intact ? YES

have you checked to see if the motors are not burnt out ? stuck, ? All other 3 doors and trunk lid lock at once??? Doubtful. So, YES all OK

does this model have a setting to set "open drivers side door only" ? YES, That's a DRBIII programmable function, I prefer 1 click to open all doors it was set to that. Remember, they don't even work via the manual central locking switches on either front doors.

did they all work before ? Yes, only changed programming for acceptance of new fob.

might be a idea to check for broken wires to the receiver (the harness that feeds through the body to door)
YES
The inside door panel was removed and all multi-plugs were disconnected - then it was re-assembled. I'm going to check the tightness of all connections - I'm thinking a bad re-connection in the 5 Volt CCD wiring loom plug(that sends the signal for the lock solenoids which are 12 Volt operated).... I'm going to look at it early (6.00 AM ) tomorrow. When door interior panel was off and all multi-plugs disconnected no doors OR windows would work from any door except the door lock and window in driver's door by means of driver's door master multi switch. Currently all windows work from ALL door switches and driver's master switch. Only no lock/unlock function of any doors or tailgate via remote OR either front door switches, only driver's door lock works via remote and driver's door switch. So I'm suspecting a 5 Volt CCD dis-continuity at the multi plugs for the pin/sockets for Central Locking Function.

I've got the FSM from Daimler Chrysler, with very extensive wiring diagrams, for my car so can narrow down where to look specifically if no quick response to tightenting all multi-plugs.

I'll have a look at it tomorrow AM, if no results - it's already going back to the auto lecky, who was very apologetic for not testing everything and all functions.

Monday , LOL well Tuesday is a little better I am sure the auto lecky will find it.
once connectors are disturbed they do tend to play up most cars do due to the wiring loom that goes through the door , (drivers side power and passenger side as well) at a pinch try while the door/s are open. does your model have the overhead console ? can the setting be reached for that on it ?
or only on the DRB111 . on my wj , the fobs need to be trained by pressing either up or down button several times while standing at the passenger door . on my wg nothing would work until the drivers door was closed , on my wj nothing worked at all on the drivers , I found the power wire was broken .
good luck , hope you have sorted out today, im sure the lecky will find the issue.
