Default Too much engine oil?

So collected my Jeep after a service - dipped the oil because for a series of reasons I have no confidence or trust in the local Jeep service dept.

On the dipstick, the oil is well over the maximum mark - per the pic. Would you consider this acceptable? I have a couple of warranty issues I’m going to rip into them about and I’m not sure if I should be doing the same over the engine oil level...

Looks like they have definately over filled.Have you checked it a number of times.cold and hot.?I own a 2010 WH GC notorious for trying to get a correct oil level reading, have had it nearly half a litre overfull with no problems. My 2012 WK2 takes 7.8 litres not 8.5 as shown in Penrites catalogue. However 8.5 is correct for 2013 on.

If it was a diesel I would be very concerned as runaway is possible with overfill. Petrol is not so much an issue.
Make sure you check it when warm ( I think thats right) & been sitting for around 15 minutes on flat ground.
Overfill by the dealer may be an attempt to hide an oil use issue.

Yeah, that’s my thinking. Probably not likely to cause damage, but given what they charged me for the service the least they can do is get the oil between the lines... Butbgivem the thing has just run out of warranty I don’t want to risk the sh1tfight that will ensue on the off chance an issue does crop up as a result.

I checked it shortly before the service and was bang-on the max line - to my knowledge it’s never used any noticeable oil. I don’t think there’s any attempt to cover up anything - I think it’s laziness/sloppiness, at best.

lucky you didnt own a twin turbo L C a few years ago. Some were using around 1 litre per thousand ks!knew a guy who had to carry 20 litres of oil every time he went away.Toyota denied in many cases there was no problem.Even sealed the dipsticks ,dealers were found out overfilling at services consequently it didnt look like vehicle using any oil !,
