In a perfect world the fastener should break or round before the tool breaks.

I have returned Sidchrome screwdrivers that broke when simply undoing screws. It looked like I had used it as a lever but I was still given a new one.

Good quality tools are much nicer to use. The first thing I bought was a Sidchrome socket set. Sure its expensive and I don't use it all that much but I am young and it will probably last my lifetime. If I had bought cheap stuff I would end up replacing it eventually anyway.

I was lucky enough to buy some used but almost new made in Australia Sidchrome stuff. It is that much better than the new stuff.

Save up and buy good stuff the first time around

This is a good thread with perfect timing since I have tools on my Xmas/birthday list. Now my question is Repco or Kinchrome sockets and spannners?

i wouldn't go repco. they are quite expensive for what you get. the only positive is if you break a socket or snap a spanner etc etc you simply take it back to any repco and they change it over with one on the shelf free of charge, no questions asked.

kingchrome are pretty good from what i hear they have a massive range of tools so you can get pretty much anything with a kingchrome stamp on it. i would be interested to see what the brands like gearwrench or TTI are like i know they are pretty big in shops such as total tools and are ok priced, unsure of warranty or quality though

yup I agree I use impact sockets from my air tool kit no dramas there! ...
how ever I have a decent 166pc Kinchrome tool kit and it's a smooth kit to use plenty of extentions etc also you can care for and maintain these tools too I use this for everything on the Jeep no dramas yet

Funny, someone mentioned a $20 Aldi torque wrench before. I just bought one of them, and it's exactly the same (and I mean identical) to one I bought 15 years ago for about $80 at Repco or similar, which served me well at the race track for years (as did the Supatool spanners).

I buy whatever fits my budget (OK, took a punt on the Aldi toque wrench), usually mid range stuff, and so far have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of my gear. The only thing which has ever failed is a big 3/4" drive breaker bar (brandless) a mate gave me.

Grey tape, zipties and fencing wire complete my off road tool kit. Very handy.
