Default XJ Storage

Just about finished what started off as a false floor to bolt the fridge slide to. Turned into a labour of love that progressed to just a labour !!!

Bolts to the floor using the original tie-down points. All up it has cost about $300.

Not yet - have to wait until i can get a mate to come round and help me lift it - it weighs about 90 kgs !!! No im not kidding ..... it wont be in permenantly until i get new leaf springs !!! I did a trial fit about half way thru - so i know it fits. Once a cargo barrier goes in i might have to cut a slot out to allow for the handle on the fridge.....its pretty tight.
Install pics will be soon

sweet looking storage space. Do you have any drawn up plans etc of it, wouldn`t mind that in the back of the xj. What type of materials were used?

LoL......too many questions !!!!

Primarily made of 15mm ply on the base and tops, the sides are 30mm (2 bits of ply stuck together) for strength and fastening of the slides. All glued and screwed together.
I got the slides from the States via Ebay, bit cheaper than anything i could find here. Fastened to the sides with countersunk machine screws and split washers.
Handles and latches are from Concept Lock and latch in Melb.
Will bolt to the floor with 4 pan head bolts and nylocs with AL checkerplate squares as load spreaders.
All trimmed with car "carpet" from Clark Rubber. I over estimated just a little (that means lots ). Might be selling a couple of metres in the near future !!!

I dont have plans as such - just sketches and measurements. Once its in and fitted, i'll upload a basic plan and measurements so you can DIY.
But like i said - its pretty heavy. I HAVE to get new springs in the back other wise im going to be on the bump stops. damn those plastic leaf springs. Merry Christmas to me !!
Cheers
Ian

been thinking this over myself in the last week.

cept i've gotta fit a pram in there as well

(it's a Jeep pram though if that counts)

I'm thinking of going with slotted steel angle. and lighter ply,

I'll keep thinking
