Is light reflection an issue with roof light bar?
Hey all.
I see heaps of Wranglers with roof light bars mounted using A-pillar brackets. I'm wondering, how bad is the light reflection on the bonnet and front windshield?
On my Ranger, I had a light bar mounted on a Rhino roof bar, which positioned the light bar just behind where the windshield and roof joined. This was less than ideal because the angle of slope of the Ranger's windshield meant the light bar would light up both the windshield and bonnet. The Wrangelr's windshield is more vertical so I'm hoping that helps.
Is a bonnet mounted light bar any better?
Anyone got pics of reflection?
For info, I'm looking at 51" curved bar from LED Light Co and Stedi A-pillar brackets.

I can’t see my bonnet when driving so any reflection is irrelevant.

You do get some reflection back but there are plenty of hood blackout decals you can get off ebay that lessen the reflections. Mine cost me about $35. I enquired at Altapak about getting the bonnet wrapped in matte black and they wanted $400.
A good quality lightbar makes a big difference as well. The cheap Chinese garbage ones throw light in every direction. A good quality one like what Stedi sell, helps throw the light out front not everywhere.
You have already seen my setup. Here's a pic of how it looks with everything on.
The big difference though is mine is white where yours is a lot darker colour.

It depends on the angle you have it mounted as well. My bonnet is illuminated, but it's not shiny and it doesn't distract me when driving at night on country roads. I also run pilllar LED lights.

Thanks for the info guys, sold on a roof mounted light bar now.
@shep, what a-pillar brackets are you using?
@Nanook, that looks significantly better than the reflection I'd get in the Ranger. The whole bonnet and windshield would be lit up like your UHF aerial!
@Das_Colonel, what lights do you have on your pillar, spot or flood or both?

I used to have the exact same aerial in white. It lasted as long as it took for me to turn on the light bar for the first time. It reflected so badly I got rid of it straight away
My last light bar was a double row one mounted the same way you are going to mount yours and it wasn't too bad either. The reflections that you will get are not distracting. Your dark bonnet will help as well.
I don't use the light bar or the roof spotties on the road. They are there only for night runs on the beach when I'm fishing. They light up the reflective road signs so bright it leaves spots before your eyes.
This pic is the light bar and highbeam only.

One thing to be aware of, that I found out the hard way. Most brackets will accept a 50 or 52 inch light bar. I have a 50 inch lightbar and Uneek light brackets and had to make 2 x 1inch spacers after over tightening brackets without them and pulling/stripping/ruining the cast threads in the ends of the light bar. You want to have the brackets pressing in against the light bar not pulling the bracket in towards the bar.
