What I did notice though is that on the driverside the front half shaft has some play within the diff (this is the long side of the diff) see below pic (not my car)

If I push on this I can get some play with it, on the other side there is no play that I can feel. Any ideas if this is normal as that side would have more leverage on it due to being further from the diff centre but really don't know the IFS dynamics that well.

You can hear it in this video (sorry for the background noise)

UPDATE
I had a look at a few video's of WH diff disassembles and can see that the front CV on that side fits to a axle shaft that fits into the diff housing and is roughly level with the housing itself so not as concerned as I was initially. The below section of video shows how it fits together in case it helps someone else in the future to picture how it fits together.

Thanks for the response mate! I was scratching my head on that one as having play there would be impacted by lifting the front end.

Well a update on the journey, I managed to get my grease gun onto the front driveshafts uni and pump it full of grease, took a bit to get it there but it did have grease in it. Test drive showed no changes so I guess I'll have to pull it out to fully check the uni and CV end as both look good visually. Doing this first mostly due to it being less effort than yanking out the halfshafts which I expect will be somewhat more involved.

Also took a couple of videos of it moving from reverse / drive, this shows that there is some movement in the diff mounts but don't think that is too much all things considered.

ever since i put Cooper tyres on mine it makes alot more front end noise as your describing.
i have noticed since replacing all 3 diff bushes and both front prop shaft cvs i now get clunking in the front when your on and off the go pedal, there seems to be a bit of play when i checked the front shaft, not sure if it the diff or transfer case im assuming diff as there is no cluning in the rear end.
