Default 07 JK throttle lag

Hi,

I picked up an 07 JK Rubicon recently, love most things about the car EXCEPT the drivability - specifically the throttle lag.

The engine is incredibly unresponsive which I know is engineered into the car and made possible via the electronic throttle, presumably to avoid harsh throttle inputs from jarring over bumpy roads.

With some good stabs to the throttle and take off, the revs jump to just over 1000rpm so I find unless I do a good launch the car really struggles off the line.

So are there any solutions to fix this dull throttle problem?

I have looked at this Superchips pre-programmed interceptor, I'd be paranoid about putting that on without a wideband. I imagine I'm not the only one and would be keen to hear what the common fix is.

Cheers

Yeah it has annoyed me for many years on mine but have sort of got used to it now. There is a little chip called sprintbooster that is meant to fix the lag- never tried it or researched it properly with regards to the CRD though.
I am not sure if I want a too sensitive throttle but it is a bit laggy at the moment- especially on hill starts.

If you find a good fix let us know!

The sprintbooster just changes the output ofthe throttle sensor to make the ECU think you are putting you foot down further. Most of the lag you feel is subjective, due to the accelerator being so much further from you than the brake pedal. I found that the most cost effective fix was putting a wedge under the throttle mount to bring it up into line with the brake pedal.

Looked into the SprintBooster too. All it does is shorten the required throw of the throttle position, ie 0=0, 1/3 = 1/2 and 2/3 = full. Thats it. I have been flamed before for saying as much, but it cant speed anything up or reduce any lag as its only amplifying the signal from the accelerator pedal.

Several of us have placed a wedge under the pedal to lift it up - giving a similar result to the sprint booster as now you can reach full throttle, where as before when seated in a comfy position for brake and clutch I nor my wife were able to get much past 1/2 throttle comfortably.

EDIT: Dammit Banshee - beat me to it!

Other than that your only option is the likes of Superchips - but I have no experience with them so cant comment on their effect in this area.

I'm starting to think I will attempt on doing this with a wedge... how and where exactly are you putting the wedge? (just a bit of wood right?)

do you have to undo any bolts or move the throttle pedal at all?

i recently ripped my throttle body and air intake off and cleaned up the throttle and upper manifold carefully (dont spray any into the engine) with some heavy duty degreaser and paper towel spent about an hour - hour and a half polishing all the gunk off from the inside, but it was worth it the car seemed to accelerate much faster and lag a lot less considering the air flowed so much easier
