Surrounded by Jeep critics. Send help now!
I trolled the web for a 2nd hand 4x4 for <20k for months, using my brain, researching fuel economies, crunching numbers. The whole time, in my heart, i just wanted a Jeep. I looked for excuses to not buy the patrol, the pajero, the triton. (all 4 cylinder turbo diesels apparently great economy yay how exciting) My wife caught me looking at Jeeps on the net. I tried to turn off the monitor, but it was too late. My secret was out.
Lately it seems that a busload of professional Jeep critics has parked outside my house, and Jeep haters inc. has my home phone number. "You know they overheat", "You know you can't get parts" "You'll spend a fortune on fuel" They're wearing me down. SHE is listening to them and asking me why are we buying a Jeep?
I see only one reason for buying a 2003/4 Laredo. I love them.(that, and they have more luggage space than the xj with their fold down seats, but damn i like those xjs too) Anyway, send help. Give me some bullets for these jeep knockers.

a good excuse for not buying a patrol is that the 3.0 L diesels are renowned for suddenly blowing up after 100,000 Ks
buy a Jeep and tell the critics to get stuffed

Mine doesn't overheat...except when I run it through mud
Mine isn't hard to get parts for...most parts available overnight from wooders.com.au
I don't spend a fortune on fuel...average of 12.0L/100km
Jeep haters are just that, people that don't understand the joy of driving a Jeep... Its hard to describe why we do it, its hard to describe why we love, we just do.
One things for sure, now that you've been biten by the Jeep bug, you physically won't be able to buy anything else... you know deep down a Jeep is what you want!
(plus we all know pootrols, toyo etc were all modelled off a Jeep anyway!)

TOUCH WOOD... my XJ has never overheated and I've used it to tow 2 tonne pop-top around Aus. I've never had to wait or pay too much for parts thanks to Wooders and others. I've never had to be towed due to a breakdown. Fuel economy... well its a 4wd, if I wanted fuel economy I'd wouldn't buy a 4wd in the first place.
My XJ is now the longest serving vehicle I've ever owned in 30 years of driving and I have no intention to get rid of it any time soon. That alone has saved me more than I'll ever have to spend on it.
But the bottom line is its a Jeep thing, you'll never be able to explain it to them!!

best thing to silence the haters, is buy one, go out for a 4wd, and when you mates POS triton gets stuck, leave him there, and go for a beer
