It was actually the best day , rained the rest of the time.
Sons tent was under water for the next 4 days.
He slept on an airbed , floating in his tent.

If you are prepared by having the rear seat out,
and dont have the rear chock full of gear, you can sleep comfortably, in the back of an XJ, with minimal preparations, provided you are less than 6ft tall, even with the spare tyre inside (one person only)

I am ready for the Apocalypse I filled the coolant today and nervously burped the system ... once I put the cap on and switched off I hosed down the concrete and washed the inner bits where coolant had over flowed went away and let everything dry ..........
NO LEAKS! ...... Finally the Flush is Done!
New battery on Tuesday ... and I'm good

Spent the afternoon yesterday completely rebuilding the rear drums. Ordered the full Carlson kit from Rockauto, around $50 to cover both rear drums. Boy I'm glad I did... Most parts snapped or fell to bits as I removed them - springs, guides, cables. On my left drum the self adjusting cable had snapped and was just bouncing around and dragging against the drum as I drove, good thing I didn't let that go on any longer. I've never worked on drum brakes in my life so this was a fun little experience. The pads I actually bought way back in 2013, I'm just real slow sometimes haha.

And oh man, how GOOD does it feel!! I never realised just how awful the whole braking experience has always been on this thing. It probably last had the rear brakes worked on about 15 years ago, and maybe 10 years ago a mechanic swapped in some new cylinders in the rear drums, but that's it. Took it for a drive today after doing all the work and it's bizarre how smooth and perfect the rear end feels. I just always figured the drum brakes were a bit rough and grumbly, but these things feel as good as disc brakes the way they're working now... seriously blown away. There were some learning curves, certain pieces have to go in in such a specific, perfect way, like the cable guide for the self adjuster - that was a real pain! Must have re-done that on both sides about 3 times before I got it seated just right to make the adjuster lever below sit right against the adjuster star. Learned a lot, and so happy with the results. Years ago I got new seals and pistons and rebuilt the front calipers so I know they're good too

It's weird how one small thing like this can totally transform how you enjoy your vehicle hey.

Next I gotta tackle the transmission mount, maybe. I can lie under the car, grab the transmission pan or rear driveshaft, and effortlessly move the entire trans and shafts left and right about an inch. The trans mount LOOKS good, but there's movement at bolts that I can't even tighten any further. Not quite sure what the go is, but I'll probably start a thread for that and get some input. A problem for another day

Good effort. Having good working rear brakes on the XJ makes a world of difference. The hard part is keeping them adjusted nicely. I think there is a reversing and handbrake trick for that, or just manually get under the Jeep and turn the stars every once in a while.

As for your tranny mount. Don't even think too hard about it. The one in my XJ seemed perfect. It wasn't crumbly, didn't look worn and was still OK. I bought a new one anyway and put them side by side. The old one had compressed about an inch over the years. Once you have the funds, i would get a tranny mount and a left side engine mount just as a matter of maintainance. The left engine mount gets hot because its near the header. It crumbles and turns to crap. Then, it can put pressure on the header and cause that to crack.

Here is a pic of a bit of maintenance i did years ago. Have a look at that left engine mount. I can't remember which engine mount it is, but one of them is for right hand drive XJ's only.
