Temperatures in low range
Hi guys,
It was due time for a head scratcher.
Usually when going offroad in low range, my temperature stays solid at 88-90*C unless going up a really really steep climb, with passengers or snow/mud.
This weekend the temperature crept up to 100*C on two climbs, where it stayed until finishing the climb.
I unplugged the coolant temperature sensor to check that the fan is still alive, the fan turned full speed.
Next slope, close to the same difficulty as the others, temperature was again stuck between 88-90*C.
Final slope, it went to 100*C again.
Why did it run cool once? Thermostat sticking closed? Fan solenoid failing to run at low requested fan speeds?

I won't try to explain, but mine does the same. (Diesel). It sometimes just decides to run hotter or cooler than usual, but it's never overheated.
Has me baffled.

Probably no help but does the same as yours. Never goes over about 90 unless on a long climb , hit 100 and stays there. Only time I've ever heard the fan run.

I can hear it run a low speed when it's hot outside, idling with the A/C on, this is when the fan PWM goes over 19%.
When the coolant temperature reached 100*C it ramped up to 21% if I remember correctly and that's how it kept it at 100*C.
Cheers for the information! One less thing to worry about in this case

Mine will run at 100c when pushing soft sand on the beach. It never goes past there and other vehicles I've driven in the same environment have done the same.
Probably a normal thing, you don't need to worry about.

I'm seeing a clear trend here. Don't worry, I found this unnerving too.
