It depends on what axle is in it as to where the changeover point is for the gear carriers and their change of offset.
What this means is as the overall rear end ratio gets taller the pinion gear must by necessity get larger in diameter and the crown wheel must be moved further away from the pinion centreline. This necessitates different carrier offset. Most diff makers do it at specific ratios where they change offset.
On the dana 44's the offset change is around 3.0, on the dana 30 it is at 3.55, and on most borg warner axles I have worked on it is at 2.92.
You proposed ratio change is quite large and therefore likely require the carrier change as well to change the offset. Might be better to get the matching LSD carrier from a donor diff.
Agree, sounds like you are up for a new carrier, put a locker in instead of LSD to remove the need for maintenance and having to pull the LSD out and replace clutch plates every 50,000km or so.

Just did a ratio change on my 97 TJ I went to 4.10 to get a bit lower for off-road, because of the large change in ratio I had to change the carrier, while I was there I went for ARB air lockers and the locker was made for 3:73 and up on the Dana 44 and from memory 3:92 and up on the Dana 30. If you want I’ll dig the instruction papers out, it said it on them

Would be really helpful. From the diff cover it seems I have a Dana 44 at the rear and a Dana 35 at the front. But knly interested in the carrier change on the rear
