Default TJ Rear Deck

I am currently building a tyre carrier that will hold my spare (horizontally) on top of the 'tray' of my Jeep.

The steel structure is already tacked, and will be welded up tomorrow. It bolts up to the standard bolt holes from the hard top fixing points. This all sits flush with the top edge of the rear tub.

I will cover the steel structure to create a hard top. The main reason is for security for my recovery gear and tools, otherwise I would just cut a hole in the current fabric cover. Also I am putting the spare here because the 33 inch tyres will bend my tailgate in no time.

I need to decide whether to do this in aluminium chequer plate, or just steel sheet.

Then I have to decide whether to paint grey (body colour), paint black, or natural finish aluminium chequer plate.

Any opinions will be most welcome!!!!

Area in question is shaded grey (quite roughly!)

I reckon black... but only because I can picture it. I've never seen a colour coded rear deck. Could look nice.
