Default Tarp for radiator? Water crossings, What's the go?

So I've read in the Jamboree rules somewhere, that I am going to need something to put over the radiator in case of water/mud crossings.

So what have you done?

Is it as simple as just cut a piece of plastic tarp, put some eyelets in the corners and cable tie it to something under the bonnet and at the bottom in front of the 7 slot grille?

Haven't driven through much water here in S.A., so it is all new to me...

THat all you need - actually don't even have to cable tie it for quick crossings, just close the bonnet on it and shove it down behind your bumper. It is just to prevent water rushing through your grill/radiator and helps with creating a bow wave in fornt during the crossing leaving an air cavity around the engine. Water still gets in but isn't forced into anywhere.

Yeah that's it, it needs to fit and do the job, but it doesn't need to be pretty.

It should go over the entire front (bullbar, everything) and can be attached with ocky straps (or something) and the bonnet as JP said (practice your hospital corners). Cable tieing is no good because you only want it on when you do the water crossing (and we're not planning on driving up rivers ). If you have an installed UHF and an aerial on the front, then you'll need to keep that connected for communicating in case of trouble so just cut a hole in it so the aerial can slip through.

Whether you actually need to use it depends on the trips you do and maybe the weather...but if you do a trip that specifys that you need it and you don't have one, no two ways about it, the trip leader will not let you go on the trip

Are there any other useful tips out there for stuff to take to Jambo?

Hopefully the wading sheet won't be necessary - but as Brett says - if you are booked on an A, or plan on playing in the boghole, it may come in very handy - someting like a $4 Supercheap tarp and a few okky straps
