Sorry took so long to reply, been Jeepin, went to load pics the other day , had forgotten they have to be resized to go on here.
The overhead in the pic is Liams , reciever screwed into the bit hanging down.
The receiver Dave sent , was housed in a metal dome sort of thing.
No light or anything.

This is what mine looks like, never worked out when it was changed to the long overhead console that has the lights in etc,.1999+ Wonder if it works for me...I still think this is something different to the immobiliser cutting out the engine -issue..

I believe your correct, you guys are talking about the central locking I have changed a few of these so they match the remote or fob and never had trouble wit it immobilising the car.
Correct me if I'm wrong with different models.
Cheers Tezza

Most likely it was a model level issue like the pre-updates, the Sports didn't have the overhead console but the Limiteds did....

The first run of the updates utilised the central locking system to activate/de-activate the immobiliser,

i.e. ... unlock doors with fob ... doors unlock ... and PCM also gets a message to de-activate the immobiliser function of the PCM.

... by mid / late 98 the immobiliser was changed to the now typical, expensive ignition key transmitter and steering column receiver.
