Noticed the new LDV / Great Wall utes have a ZF 8 Speed Auto, has anyone had a squiz at the Pans on them to see if its identical to one in the Jeep,
There you go Drover, theres a job for you as you know what your looking at
If they do match and are interchangeable, who knows bloody pans ( service kit ) might be cheap as from LDV Dealers

Bloody hell Drover...it's gotta be real this mocka stuff doesn't it? Hope no drama as that is the last thing you need to worry when touring...a flippin' oil leak.

Only ever driven through Texas, hope there is a spanner man who can help you out...good luck.

Off topic...I read some where a while back that one of the Chinese utes was going to use the VM Diesel in it's line up...maybe it's the LDV thing? Not sure which diesel though, could even be the 4 cylinder one that was in the older models.

"Leyland Daf Vans"...who would have thought the Chinese would buy that name to market their utes as "LDV"...but I guess a whole lot better than the "Great Wall" of China...lol...just the same I guess as the MG name being bought by the same Chinese manufacturer SAIC to market their "cars". Of course the MG name belonged to a reasonably respected make of nimble little sports car...trashed now I guess...

I have to tighten mine less than a quarter of a turn every couple of weeks. sometimes longer, sometimes shorter depending on how big the puddle is on my garage floor/ Got another pan that is going on this week so hopefully this solves it. At least my gearbox has had a good flush with 2 pan and oil changes in 15k km I guess. Hope this new one doesn't leak.

Well it seems to be the plug itself as it has all those notch points when tightening up and I think the idea being that once tight it should not unwind. Mine has stopped dripping but I was more treating it with kid gloves being plastic on plastic, but after watching a few vids, it appears it can take torquing without stripping. Mine started leaking after taking a gentle but prolong pounding on the Stresleki track. Checked out the other vehicles with ZF and at least its not common. But a potential point to tighten on the rare occassion.

These transmission pans look a lot sturdier:

Well plans got changed so delayed leaving daughters place so I slung the jeep up on stands, dropped the bash plate, confirmed drain plug leaking, wiped it down, grabbed 10mm Hex drive, while wriggling it to get it in the bluddy plug drops out along with gallon of oil, you would have though a million crows had gathered in the shed, I can tell you.................. an hour later the Jeep is on the flat bed into a Toowoomba tranny shop, you can see where the plug has fractured just above the O ring leaving the threaded bit still in the pan looks like it will get an early service done, they better use the right oil, await a phone call later this arvo for the damage to my wallet... sort of scary as to how easy it was to come away, I could have been in no where if it had happened on the road............

I see in the ZF catalogue they have a 8HP70 metal pan for a couple of model vehicles I might see if I can track one down, that yank one is exceedingly expensive.......
