re the plastic drain plug- i now ended up with two pans, one aftermarket one from the local jeep dealer and one i got from Drovers link online.
Both identical in size, depth , magnets etc except the drain plug and fitting were slightly different.
The ebay one had a sort of weaker drain plug construction where the allen key fitted and inside the pan there was a plastic nut glued in to take the plug thread.
I could see that if this came loose when re tightening the plug ,the plug could just spin.
The jeep dealer aftermarket one had a solid drain plug and the thread was part of the pan which looked pretty solid.
Not really an issue unless you need to undo the drain plug and re tighten it again-
which your not supposed to do anyway but it might explain why some pans leak after their drain plugs have been unscrewed and re tightened.

I have a couple of old ones might have a close look and see if any other differences.... think the original may still be in the stack.

Well I dug around out the back, found 1 x genuine pan and 2 x aftermarket ones and actually I couldn't tell the difference other than the ZF label on the Jeep one, I destroyed one threaded section to confirm the threaded section on each pan was a molded part of the pan, a nut looking affair which has drain slots as well as the centre hole, so the nut is only holding about half the thread face of the plug and relies on the O ring big time to seal, in all 3 the threaded section was part of the pan mold, the correct pan for the WK2 has 4 magnets and a deeper pan while the car type ones have a shallower pan and only 2 magnets, I have one of them unused still in packet, big argument with the so called supplier over that one.......
I will just keep it until I downgrade to a Beemer....
