Jacking WG
Hi,
I've got a lift kit for my WG. I've had a few patrols and Jimmy's and usually position the jack in the center of the diff and raise up, support chassis by car stands, take wheels off and lower axle until coils are able to be freed.
Now looking at the diffs on the jeep... Are they strong enough to do this? I'm used to seeing a fully cast one piece house. The jeep looks like a cast pumpkin and screwed or welded in axle tubes?
I see where you place the stands/hoist. Not used to not seeing chassis rails lol.
Thanks,
Shane

Official answer - no. Jack it up one side at a time. I put my stands under the monocoque rails just in front of the control arm mounts.
Unofficial answer - I have slipped my trolley jack under the rear diff more than once without bending it. But, I was very careful not to jerk the jack and to do everything slowly.

I've done the same, I don't think they are as precious as everyone keeps saying.

I’ve done it the “official” way as described and by jacking from the diff centre and both work fine. The Dana diffs are pretty good up until you start throwing them over jumps, then they need beefing up. And there are weld-on kits to do that too.

Well when off road, alot of time, you will be sitting on the rear diff in ruts, or even on rocks, my rear hasn't bent, had the front strengthened though, i would imagine that would be worse than a jack.

Good point. I've been stuck on a big crown with all 4 wheels off the ground, been snatched out, and still have not bent a diff.

Thanks lads.
I figured they could handle it but wanted to be sure.
Do the spring insulators tear when changing the coil springs?
Thanks
