Arrow '02 Cherokee trans question

Hi all,

Just in the last couple of days (and only once /day), I have noticed my trans clunk down to low after I have stopped. I know the rear end thump many get and mine has had since new. This ISN'T it. Yesterday was warm and it was a decided clunk. Today was a much lighter version.

It had the trans fluid and filter done at the dealers about a month ago. They DON'T flush but drain and do the filter. SO I know the correct fluid was used.

Anyone like to comment or point me in any direction?

Thanks

Oliver

That could probably be your slip yoke spline needs some grease. The thump is caused by the spline jamming then releasing.
Pull the rear drive shaft and apply a good quality high pressure grease (like INOX) to the spline.

Exclamation

Howdy all,

Yep, will pull the shaft off and grease the slip yoke. That's definately the thud I and others feel.

Thes last 2 or 3 clunks were from the gearbox and they were when pulling up to the lights or similar.

They may be related to the slip yoke and it was binding more than usual? It seems to have happened when doing a bit of slow driving if the gearbox is cool (such as coming down the hill from where I live in the morning).

I will keep an eye on this.

I have a small weep too from the front of the engine with one of the bolts into the front timing cover beside the PS pump. Anyone else had this. It is a very small weep but it makes a rubbery synthetic oil smell when pulling ito the garage.

Any hoo....

Thanks folks
