Default '06 CRD Rattle

Hi all
I have tried searching for a similar problem, but can't seem to find anything like what i am experiencing...

Car driving fine. Started it up the other morning, warmed it up for a minute or so, then as i started to drive off I noticed a very slight "rattle" noise when accelerating. It sounds like a cross between a loose screw behind the dash, and like the engine is pinging. Initially it only happens on part throttle (40-70%). After 10-15 minutes of driving, the noise tends to hang around (even when idling).

Car is Auto, mechanically well looked after, 125k, oil done every 5k, timing belt done at 90k.

I have had a brief look under the bonnet and can't see anything loose that might be rattling, and apart from the noise it drives fine. I may just be paranoid given that the last time the car made a funny noise the turbo blew; but if anyone has any suggestions as to what may be causing the noise I am all ears.

Cheers

Cam

I have heard a similar rattle on a '03 crd auto and in that case it was the dip stick of the transmission that the arm that holds the tube to the engine had broken off and the pipe was hitting against the firewall. In this case it went from a broken stabilizing arm to a broken pipe in a few day's so i would check that sooner rather than later.

The serpentine belt tensioner is not touching its limits is it???
Do you have the alternator decoupler on yours, is it in good repair???
You could try running it briefly with out the belt on and see if the noise is still there.

I have a similar rattle occasionally which turns out to be the auto trans dipstick working up out of the tube and the plastic top of the dipstick tapping on under bonnet hardware,

Note to self: get a cable tie to hold it in place !!
